: as a copywriter at a London ad agency, I used #FultonMackay as a voiceover playing the part of an old salmon, telling a young salmon who wanted to use the new #AirFrance flights from Edinburgh "Och, you've got to do a bit of spawning!" Anyway, the young salmon continues to tell Fulton all about flying by Air France rather than swimming up stream. "And they don't treat you like sardines either!" the young salmon ends his sell for Air France travel. ✈ Actually in those far-off days I employed a few of those characters you've lovingly drawn - #DavidJason et al....

Pretty surreal was seeing Cyril Vickers again in the Royal Victoria Place after last seeing him all those years ago when we sat together in a Soho wine bar. There he was, popping in to do a spot of shopping and there we were ~ #HazeltheMallMoll and I trading in our full display stand. Weird how these things occur.

'Enchanted Cottage' safe arrival....

Hi Grenville

The picture has just arrived and I am absolutely delighted with it. It arrived safely - thank you for packing it so securely. Its arrival certainly brought a smile to my face and brightened my Monday!

Thank you so much for getting the picture to me so quickly, especially in these uncertain times. I'm hoping that the lockdown will be eased in a month's time so I can pass it on to my mum as it's part of her 80th birthday present. I also have a copy of The Enchanted Cottage which I bought a few years ago. It's such a lovely scene.

Wishing you and your family well.

'Morning Anna

Well done for taking the Cygnet website on.  It seems to be the only route (the internet) left to everyone now.

Anyway, here's my bit:

Grenville Allen in his corner of the Cygnet Gallery

I've attached a few pics above.  They're all painted in acrylic but in an old English watercolour technique ~ without the use of white paint.

Exception to this is 'The Enchanted Lake' featuring the frog and gnome.  This has been framed with a sort of Gothic twist.  This is the original.

Hope all this makes sense, Anna.  And thanks again. 👍🎨

As you all may know we are going to close the current website which is owned by Swans Trust and replace it with our own. This transaction was initially going to happen sometime at the end of April beginning of May. However this may have changed.

I have started to put together another very simple site and used some of the information on the current site. I have managed to transfer text and one or two images However, images are proving a major problem so if you wish to continue  to have a page on our Gallery's site please send me some images. Also can you check your details.

For those who are not on our site and would like to have a page please send me your information and images.

Please the links on you page have not been activated yet.

Still haven't blotted my copybook it seems....

Hi there, Grenville, welcome to the Cygnet!
Thank you for getting back so promptly.....and for being as conscientious as this. Thank you too for filling the gap on 14th.

But we'd like to assure you this email was not really aimed at our lovely new artists!! This is truly an ongoing problem......and one which affects several much more long-standing artists than yourself.
We are, in particular, giving those historical members a nudge to pull together, to wake them up so we can continue to maintain what we believe is a beautiful and creative space. To make them realise the Gallery doesn't run itself .....as over the years, many seemingly think!

Well done. Your new unit looks lovely; vibrant, colourful and eye catching with a quirky tongue in cheek humour, the painting which made me chuckle aloud were the ducks/ geese "debating "!
I look forward to meeting you at some stage soon.....and once again, welcome to The Cygnet!
All the very best,
Cali (on behalf of all the Cygnet artists)

Hazel is v pleased with your birthday wishes, Ginette.  Am responding for her as at the moment she's transfixed by her football team's latest win.  They've beaten Burnley.  Great they've won after a dodgy spell of losses & near relegation. They go on and on dissecting how the match went.  I dunno!

She loves Matilda ~ as do I.  She looks v haughty ~ not happy about being disturbed on her new bed!  Here's Salty the sea cat wishing everyone New Year's good wishes.  Just click here.

We're having a v peaceful New Year so far as I hope you two are too.  Soo quiet & tranquil round here ~ no fireworks, nothing!

All our fondest.  Another video on its way.  Stand by!

Fwd: Mind-blowing day we had in April, 2019!

We were staying with Hazel's sister in Walmley nr Sutton Coldfield as part of our move to Dorset.  And I said that it would be good to try out the Sutton Parade & Lichfield which we did ~ triumphantly.

Sunny Saturday and I'm already brown so decide to turn up in skimpy shorts & vest.  (H's sister, aghast, afterwards screeches: "He didn't go out like that, did he?!")  Tee-hee!

Anyway, the day went magnificently for us. Just one of those days where everything plays into your hands.  First thing woman & her family stop by, remarking that they've already bought from us in Hempsted Valley, Kent and would like some more.  Then the daughter mentions she's off to uni & I tell her about my days there, my epic poetry etc.  She even asks me to recite some of my work.  Immediately as I tell her about my travels down a wormhole she's open-jawed, goggle-eyed, loving it. Whoosh!  Not only selling pics but reciting my poetry which is going down a storm!

Then loads of sales and even finally - as we're packing away ~ a young woman pops out of a nearby shop where she'd been working and asks if she could buy the long framed racing badgers (with the go-faster stripes) pic: Get Sett Go!  What a brill end to a fabulous day!

Those nearby stallholders such as Steve Lilly (a fantastically gifted portraitist) and Clem Chucki still keep in touch on Facebook.  Incredibly Steve with his talented photographer wife live right by where I spent the early part of my childhood.  This is the Bert & Gert Sutton Parade market here.
